Between Normandy countryside, castles, local producers and charming villages, Mézidon-Canon is an excellent starting point for discovering the Pays d'Auge.

Located between the Caen plain and the Pays d'Auge, the destination allows you to enjoy a more secluded Normandy, away from the hustle and bustle of seaside resorts, while remaining close to many tourist sites.

Planning a weekend in Normandy or a few days in Calvados? Here are 8 ideas for visits and activities to do around Mézidon-Canon.

1. Visit Canon Castle and its gardens

It is impossible to talk about Mézidon-Canon without starting with the Château de Canon .

The estate is particularly known for its park, gardens, and vistas typical of grand Norman estates. Depending on the time of year, visitors can explore the grounds on their own or with a guide. The estate also organizes various events throughout the seasons.

In July and August, the estate is currently open daily from 10:30 am to 7 pm and also offers illuminated evenings on certain nights. Opening hours vary depending on the season, so be sure to check them before your visit.

Our advice: allow plenty of time to enjoy the gardens at your leisure.

2. Step back in time at Crèvecœur Castle

Located about ten minutes from Mézidon-Canon, the Château de Crèvecœur offers a completely different atmosphere.

Here, you step back into the Middle Ages. Moats, ramparts, a chapel, farm buildings, and a lord's residence offer a glimpse into the workings of a small medieval rural estate. The Tourist Office presents it as one of the area's must-see sites.

It's a particularly enjoyable visit for families or history buffs.

3. Travel along the greenway from Mézidon-Canon to Livarot

Want to discover Normandy in a different way?

The greenway linking Mézidon-Canon to Livarot allows you to cross part of the Pays d'Auge between meadows, apple orchards, half-timbered houses and countryside landscapes.

The route is approximately 25 kilometers long and is classified as easy for cycle tourists.

A great idea for a day of cycling, especially in spring and summer.

4. Discover Cambremer and the Cider Route

A stay in the Pays d'Auge would be incomplete without discovering its iconic products.

Head towards Cambremer , the starting point of the famous Cider Route . This tourist circuit of approximately 40 km winds through the countryside and allows you to discover the local producers.

Cider, pommeau, Calvados… it’s an opportunity to discover another side of Normandy and to meet those who bring its terroir to life.

The village of Cambremer is also worth a visit for its traditional buildings and its typically Augeronne atmosphere.

5. Make a stop at Coupesarte Manor

For lovers of Norman architecture, the Manoir de Coupesarte is one of the places to discover around Mézidon-Canon.

With its half-timbered houses and green surroundings, it perfectly represents the image associated with the Pays d'Auge.

The place is particularly well suited for a stopover during a day spent exploring small country roads.

6. Discover Norman products at the Croissanville Press

The Pays d'Auge can be visited, but it can also be tasted.

Le Pressoir de Croissanville allows you to discover different products made from apples: cider, apple juice, Pommeau de Normandie, Calvados or even cider vinegar.

A great stop to better understand local cider-making traditions and leave with some delicious souvenirs.

7. Explore the backroads of the Pays d'Auge

Sometimes, the best plan is precisely not to have too much of it.

Take the car or the bike and set off to discover the small roads of the Pays d'Auge : half-timbered houses, stud farms, apple orchards, meadows and villages follow one another over the kilometers.

Cycling enthusiasts can also access various routes around Cambremer and the Cider Route. A 33 km loop, in particular, allows cyclists to pass through Cambremer, Beuvron-en-Auge, and several cider production areas.

This is probably one of the best ways to enjoy the charm of this part of Normandy.

8. Enjoy a weekend between the Normandy countryside and the Côte Fleurie

Staying in Mézidon-Canon also allows you to combine several atmospheres during the same trip.

One day can be devoted to the castles and countryside of the Pays d'Auge, another to the Norman villages, gastronomy or a getaway to the Côte Fleurie.

It is this contrast that makes the region particularly pleasant for a weekend in Normandy as a couple, with family or with friends .

Where to stay to visit Mézidon-Canon and the Pays d'Auge?

To enjoy the region without changing accommodation every night, you can choose a hotel located directly in Mézidon-Canon.

Hotel Le Saint-Pierre welcomes you to the heart of Mézidon Vallée d'Auge and is a convenient starting point for exploring the Château de Canon, Crèvecœur, Cambremer and the landscapes of the Pays d'Auge.

After a day of sightseeing, return to the peace and quiet of your room before setting off again to explore Normandy the next day.
